A recent article “Who is the killer employee under Obamacare? #50 or #51?” in CNN Money highlighted that the new Affordable Care Act would have no impact to small businesses with less than 50 employees.  The reality is very different.

We were renewing our Worker’s Compensation insurance and only found one company willing to write the business with one stipulation. We had to offer Health Insurance to our employees.  The rationale is that employers who offer health insurance will have a lower incidence of Worker’s Comp claims. How so?  An employee who injures himself or herself during the weekend with no health insurance is more likely to come to work on Monday and claim that they injured themselves while at work thus putting in a claim on the business’ Worker’s Comp insurance.

So the reality is that health insurance is required starting from employee #4.

Finding companies that write Worker’s Comp insurance in FL for Non Emergency Medical Transport is proving to be extremely difficult. Is the Florida Workers’ Compensation Joint Underwriting Association the only option? Please share your experience.
